ABOUT JETSPRINTS

Combining Kiwis’ love of V8 motorsports and boating, the sport of jetsprinting originated 30+ years ago on rivers and picturesque farmland aqua-tracks. The precision, kiwi-engineered boats have to be seen to be believed! Highly-skilled 2-person crews (driver/navigator) navigate a set course in time trial racing.

The boats boast up to 1500hp, 0-130kph in under 2 secs and pull up to 7 g’s. The Suzuki Superboat class are aptly named “methanol munching monsters”! The Altherm Window Systems NZ Championship Series hosts rounds in Wanaka, Whanganui, Taranaki, Hastings, Meremere and Featherston.

Did you know? Jetsprinting is a unique V8 motorsport with Kiwi origins. The sport originated in New Zealand in 1981, and events were originally held in the same natural braided rivers that Sir William Hamilton used to develop the jetboat. When the sport was introduced to Australia in the mid-1980s, permanent artificial courses were used – and this is now the norm worldwide. Jetsprint racing is thrilling to watch with high spectator engagement at its events. The tracks are designed for spectators and racing is fast! +-125kph and <95dcB. The fiercely contested Tasman championship led to a three-way world championship with the introduction of the sport to the United States, under the auspices of the Union Internationale Motonautique. The host national World Series rotates between New Zealand, Australia and the USA, and most recently, Canada. This kiwi sport now boasts a growing national and international following – via live event audiences, TV and social media. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jetsprint
